Shots Fired Outside Food Mart: Loudoun County Crime Report

Several crimes were reported around Loudoun County recently, including a hit and run in Sterling, and a shot fired outside of a food mart.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — An array of crimes were reported around Loudoun County over the weekend and at the start of the week, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Notable incidents included a hit and run in Sterling, a shot fired outside of the High Up Mart, and an assault and burglary in Chantilly.

The hit and run was reported to authorities in the evening on Friday, Aug. 20. Deputies responded to the 1900 block of North Amelia Street in Sterling to investigate, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that a vehicle hit two other parked vehicles before fleeing the scene. The witnesses were able to lead deputies to the home of the man who fled the scene, according to the report.

The accused driver was charged with a third driving under the influence offense, driving on a revoked license, and two counts of hit and run. He was held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

On Sunday, Aug. 22, deputies responded to the High Up Mart in Sterling after they received a report of a man firing a gun. When deputies initially arrived on the scene, the accused man fled into a restaurant bathroom, police said.

The man later emerged from the bathroom and was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities determined that the man fired the gun before entering the High Up Mart on Sunday. They also claimed that the man later pointed a gun at another man inside the food mart, according to the police report.

The accused man was charged with two counts of discharging a firearm, one count of simple assault, four counts of reckless handling of a firearm, one count of brandishing a firearm, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. He was held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

On Sunday night in Chantilly, a woman reported that a man she knew would not let her leave an apartment, according to authorities. The woman was eventually able to escape and filed a report with the sheriff's office.

While she was filing the report, the woman learned that the man was attempting to enter her house, police said. Authorities claimed the man was able to enter the home, where he grabbed a boy. The boy was able to flee the home.

Authorities found the man at the scene and arrested him. He is charged with one count of burglary and two counts of assault.

The sheriff's office also reported a number of incidents involving thefts from cars. In Sterling, a front license plate was stolen from a car, a cinder block was thrown through a rear windshield, and items were stolen from two other vehicles.

At Segra Field, an employee reported that someone "forcibly entered" as storage unit. They did not immediately know if anything was stolen, police said.

In Ashburn, one person reported that their car was "purposefully scratched," according to the report. Another person in Ashburn said the windshield of their car was smashed.
