• United Way Provides $60,000 To Nonprofits (thenews-gazette.com) — United Way of Rockbridge, Lexington and Buena Vista is directing $60,000 to 10 nonprofits that help local residents with food, healthcare, education, and other basic needs. Last year’s support brought thousands of food backpacks to schools in Lexington, Buena Vista and the county, along with rent, utility, and legal assistance for many neighbors. A new volunteer program is also in the works. 
• PM Dealt First Loss, 21-6 (thenews-gazette.com) — Parry McCluer’s football team fell 21-6 to James River at Robert E. Williams Field in Buena Vista after missed red-zone chances and a costly fumble late in the third quarter. Despite holding James River’s main rushers in check, two big plays by Sam Wilson proved decisive. The Blues look to rebound at home this Friday night when they host Stonewall Jackson for homecoming.
