Bruins Saved by last moment Home Run against Rams

Here's my first post on local sports, I covered a High School Baseball game at Lake Braddock,

Bruins Baseball Rescued by a Home Run

Last night on May 25th, 2016 the Lake Braddock Bruins Varsity Baseball team faced off against their archrival the Robinson Rams for the 6A North Region Round 1 game. Not only was this a playoff game, but it was also a test to see if the Bruins could keep dominating as a team. The last two games saw Lake Braddock shut down and shut out the competition 19-0, leading up to last night’s epic match with a Rams team that barely had a .500 record at 11-11. The Bruins came in having defeated top seeded West Springfield 8-0 so at 17-5 it seemed that Lake Braddock would win this game easy.

The game was somewhat tight as Lake Braddock couldn’t muster a ton of offensive fireworks outside of two runs. Up until the top of the 5th it had been the defensive play of LB that had been able to keep things going steady. Senior Pitcher Wade Strain and Co. kept the team afloat giving up only one run, the first run scored against the Bruins since May 12th by South County. Things would go on to get worse, in the top of the 6th the defense clumsily gave up two more runs and the lead to the Rams. As Robinson took a 3-2 lead things looked very bleak as the Bruins had very little offense that night.

Fortunately, hope was not lost as a single from Senior Logan Driscoll drove in the tying run and an error by the Rams gave the Bruins a man so close to home one could smell it.

All the Bruins needed was one more run in order to keep their 2016 season alive and well. This run came from the mighty smack of the bat by one Ryan Tobin. After Robinson pitched two balls, Mr. Tobin unleashed a Home Run hit so powerful and much needed that it resulted in an uproarious applause and celebration from the home crowd. Lake Braddock had won 4-3 against Robinson and will advance to the Regional Quarter Finals against Patriot HS. Hopefully that game will further showcase why this team belongs in the postseason, and perhaps show a stronger performance from the Bruins. Miracles like these don’t happen often, and when they do, it brings a crowd onto its feet in elation, just like last night.
