• ArtsFairfax launches exhibition series bringing local artists into new community venues (ffxnow.com) — Springfield Town Center will host a six‑month ArtsFairfax exhibition starting in October, tying into the region’s artoberVA celebration with free and discounted arts experiences. The new “ArtsFairfax Presents” series is also activating spaces like Lincolnia Senior Center and the Braddock District Office with rotating visual art shows and future exhibits highlighting local nature and military-affiliated artists.
   

• Volunteers begin mapping heat islands across Fairfax County, N. Va. (ffxnow.com) — Springfield is one of several Fairfax County areas previously flagged as a heat island, and new volunteer mapping today will update how hot local neighborhoods really get. Citizen scientists are driving pre-set routes across Northern Virginia with rooftop sensors, feeding data to George Mason University to guide future decisions on tree planting, cooling strategies, and other protections from extreme heat.
   

• NEW: Special prosecutor will be requested for speeding case against Supervisor Jimenez (ffxnow.com) — A Fairfax County judge is expected to get a request Monday to appoint a special prosecutor in the reckless driving case against Mason District Supervisor Andres Jimenez. A Springfield District representative with Virginians for Safe Communities argued that Jimenez’s ties to Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano could undermine public trust, prompting the move to seek an outside prosecutor.
