Springfield Town Center Hosts New Art Exhibit By Fairfax Artist

Shoppers can explore a free exhibit by Fairfax artist Precious Burger, with two free art workshops planned for winter.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Visitors to Springfield Town Center can take a break from shopping to explore a free art exhibit featuring colorful, mixed-media works by a Fairfax artist, with two free workshops planned for this winter.

The exhibit, "Through Me: Where Wonder Finds a Way," features contemporary artist Precious Burger and will remain on display through March 31, 2027, at the shopping center located at 6500 Springfield Mall.

Presented by ArtsFairfax in partnership with Springfield Town Center, the exhibit is part of the ongoing "ArtsFairfax Presents" initiative, which brings artwork by local artists into public spaces.

Burger's work combines painting, collage, texture and expressive marks to explore creativity, curiosity and the freedom to experiment.

A former art educator with 30 years of experience, Burger said her work is inspired partly by watching children create art without worrying about making mistakes.

"My work explores what becomes possible when we reclaim the curiosity, play and freedom that comes so naturally to us as children," Burger said.

She also credits a life-changing health crisis with reshaping her perspective on creativity and the importance of joy.

"In a culture that rewards speed, productivity, and certainty, I want my work to offer something different: a reason to pause, become curious, reconnect, and remain open to possibility," she said.

In addition to the exhibit, Burger will lead two free workshops this winter inspired by the artwork on display. Specific dates and registration details have not yet been released.

Stuart Holt, president and CEO of ArtsFairfax, said the exhibit demonstrates how artwork can transform everyday public spaces.

"Ms. Burger's work is bold, beautiful, and a perfect example of how art invites the viewer to look at themselves and their surroundings differently," Holt said.

Burger, who lives in Fairfax, has shown her work throughout the Washington, D.C., region, including solo exhibitions at the National Institutes of Health and the Valley Educational Center for the Creative Arts. Her work will also be featured this fall at ADC Fine Art Gallery in Cincinnati.

The Springfield exhibit continues a partnership between ArtsFairfax and Springfield Town Center to showcase local artists in spaces accessible to the broader community.

The shopping center is home to more than 100 retail, dining and entertainment destinations, including Target, Macy's, Regal Cinemas and LEGO Discovery Center.
