CVHS Freshmen Take First at Stampede Cross-Country Classic

Centreville High School cross-country report.

The Cross Country team foreshadowed a promising future this past weekend with both the freshman boys and girls teams taking first place at The Stampede Cross Country Classic in Lorton. 

Freshman Bobby Dunn took the first place medal with an impressive 18:08 finishing time. Following Dunn in the Top 10 were Andrew Yow (fourth), Presley Day (seventh), and Marco Lim (10th). Jackie O’Shea led the girls team finishing 2nd at 20:19. 

Also receiving a medal are: Natalie King (fifth), McKinsey Smith (seventh), Christina Makhlouf (eighth), and Isabella Muzo (ninth). Junior Rebecca Vintner, had a very strong race placing fourth in the Girls Varsity A race with a time of 19:59.

Additionally, the girls JV race had three strong finishers: junior Elizabeth Ellis (13th), senior Kimberly Ona (19th), and junior Sabetta Singh (21st).Senior Chris Jones placed 20th in the Boys Varsity A race with a strong time of 17:51.Other impressive finishers were: Boys Varsity B, junior Eric Mayer (41st) and Boys JV, junior Stephen Yu (37th).

Closer to home, the Wildcats have continued to place multiple finishers in the top ten at Concorde District Meets. On Oct. 5 at Lake Fairfax, the Lady Wildcats placed first and second with senior Emily McLenigan and sophomore Kylie Cuomo. Three others finished in the top ten: Maya Munoz (sixth), McKinsey Smith (seventh), and Sydney Pryor (eighth).

The boys took three places in the top ten: Marco Lim (sixth), Sean Nguyen (seventh), and Daniel Molina (ninth). On Oct. 11, at the third Concorde District Meet at Burke Lake, both the boys and girls team placed first: senior Chris Jones and sophomore Joanna Ahn. Indeed, the top three finishers in the boys race were all CVHS Wildcats, with junior Chan Young Lee and freshman Bobby Dunn following. 

Other top finishers for the boys were: Garbriel Kushin (fifth), Evan Wollins (seventh), Fernando Muzzo (eighth), and Calvin Jones (10th). The girls also held tight to the finish with Ahn followed by: Emily McLenigan (third), Kylie Cuomo (fourth), Rebecca Vintner (sixth), McKensey Smith (seventh), and Maya Munoz (10th). 

Runners of the Week were juniors Joanna Ahn and Calvin Jones.
