Sports Review: Wildcats Wrap Up Regular Season

Weekly sports review.

Baseball: On May 12, the varsity baseball team defeated , 9-8, going extra innings for the win. This was the Wildcats’ third consecutive victory over Concorde District opponents, after beating  9-6 on May 6th and 9-7 on May 11th. 

The team finishes its regular season with a district record of 4-6; next up are the District Championships.  

Softball: On May 9th, Centreville’s Lady Wildcats softball team recorded their first win against the , 3-0.

played flawless defense, with sophomore Amanda Meny pitching the entire game. Lexi Murdock hit a triple and Kara love had a single and a double for the three hits recorded in the game. Cara Donovan recorded the only RBI with a sacrifice fly. 

The Lady Wildcats also showed great control at the plate, with two walks by Lauren Knoble and sacrifice bunts/fly balls by Fiona Watson, Cara Donovan, Caitlyn Langelier and Haley Holmes.

The following night, Centreville topped at home with the a score 6-4. Courtney Burke pitched five strong innings before Morgan Yi came in to close. Murdock and Burke both recorded doubles in the game; Watson and Macy Luck both recorded singles. Love, Donovan, Murdock, Holmes, Langelier and Morgan Yi all scored runs.

On Wednesday, Centreville faced for the second time during the week, this time with Yi on the mound. Despite the continued strong defensive play of the Wildcats, Centreville lost the matchup by one run. Final score was 3-2 Herndon.

To close out the Lady Wildcat's regular season on May 12th, Centreville faced at home in an exciting 6-4 victory, with Burke pitching the entire game. The score was back and forth throughout the game, but in the fifth inning, with bases loaded (Holmes on 3rd, Knoble on 2nd, Luck on 1st), Love drew a walk to take the lead in the game.  

All of the Wildcats contributed to the win. Game highlights include the following:  

  • Love had three walks, two runs, and seven defensive outs
  • Watson had two sacs, one RBI, and one defensive out
  • Donovan recorded a single, a double, a walk, one run, one RBI, and one defensive out
  • Murdock had a single, a sac, one RBI, and recorded four defensive outs
  • Holmes had two singles, one sac, two defensive outs
  • Burke had a walk and four defensive outs (three of which were strikes outs on the mound)
  • Langelier drew a walk, Knoble had a single and one run
  • Karen Johnson had a single, one run and one defensive out
  • Luck recorded one defensive out. 

As part of the Senior Night festivities, the Lady Wildcats recognized three outstanding players: Cara Donovan, Karen Johnson, and Caitlyn Langelier.

The Wildcats will enter District playoffs this week, playing Wednesday, May 18.

Girls Soccer: In the final week of the regular season, the Lady Wildcats soccer team defeated , 7 –0. This was the eleventh game of the season. 

Katie O'Donnell scored three goals in the first half and Baylee Gillmore and Stephanie Yoon each contributed two goals. Kristen Fadel led with three assists and Baylee Gillmore and Ashley Forbes each added an assist.  Tori Collar was in goal for the Cats. 

Then on Wednesday, May 11, in front of a packed house, the Lady Wildcats , 1 - 0. Centreville took the lead in the first half with a goal by Mari Marotta; Lindsay Egbers picked up the assist. 

The Lady Wildcats held onto the lead as goalie Taylor Avery posted five saves for the game. The team is now 11 - 1.
