Ten CVHS Swimmers Qualify for State Meet

A recap of the latest Centreville High School sports news.

Swim and Dive: The team held their region meet over the weekend. A number of students were state qualifiers, including:

Girls 200 Medley Relay - Rachel Anderson, Logan Ross, Abby McCranie,  Kylie Cuomo

Girls 100 Fly - Rachel Anderson

Girls 200 Freestyle Relay - Logan Ross, Kylie Cuomo, Rachel Anderson,  Abby McCranie

Girls 100 Breaststroke - Logan Ross

Track: Thirty-four athletes from the Centreville indoor track and field team participated in the Concorde District meet on Jan. 26 and Feb. 2. Of those, 17 will advance to the Northern Region meet at George Mason on Feb. 18. While our small team did not carry the day as a team, there were some standout performances by the individual athletes. 

Senior Texas Williams had an outstanding performance and qualified for Regionals in the triple jump (3rd), 55 (6th) and 300 meters (4th),and the 800 meter relay. Senior jumper Philip Christophe competed in the Long and Triple Jumps, where he placed second and fourth, respectively.

Junior Sydney Pryor placed second in the hurdles and also advanced in the Triple Jump with a fifth place finish. Juniors Alex Myers (sixth), Michael Wright (sixth) and Chan Young Lee advanced in the 500 meters, 300 meter dash and 3200 meter run, respectively. Sophomores Chase Heiner (1000 meters) and Maryn Wood (300 meters) placed third in their events to advance. Last but not least, freshman Jackie O'Shea advanced in the 3200 meters with a fifth place finish. 

Along with these athletes, there were many outstanding relay performances. Seniors Brett Martin, Chris Jones, Daniel Molina, and Valery Luna will be joining junior Marcel Smith and freshmen Bella Muzo at the Regional Championship in the 800 meter, 1600 meter and 3200 meter relays.

Congratulations are in order as well for the athletes that qualified for the Concorde District Championship, but did not advance to the Regional Championship meet. Those athletes are:

Bobby Dunn, Brandon Miller, Brian Su, Joanna Ahn, Kasey Marley, Kip Talman, Lisa Dinschel, Marco Lim, McKinsey Smith, Mikael Mantis, Mohamed Korama, Natalie King, Nathan Milton, Randy Chaing, Rebecca Vinter, Seo Hee Im, Sydney Evans and Young Bin Jin.
