Images from the Sidelines: Chantilly Girls Soccer Win 3 -1 Over Stone Bridge in Region Play
Chantilly lights up the field with a 3 -1 victory over Stone Bridge on Friday night.
Stone Bridge came out with force on Friday night and kept the ball on the Chantilly side of the field for most of the first half. Chantilly's strong back line of Eileen Sechler, Maddy Brown, Elizabeth Casey, Lauren Yates and Goalie Lauren Mashinski were kept busy holding off a strong Stone Bridge offense. With minutes ticking down before the half, after another peppering at the net, Chantilly cleared the ball only to have Stone Bridge loop a bouncing blooper that got past Chantilly's Lauren Mashinski for a 1 - 0 game to end the first half.
Chantilly's Coach Bibbee came out of the halftime break with some field adjustments that put a spark into the Chargers who came out fast and furious. Chantilly answered back quickly with a searing, rising ball by freshman Laila Gray which brought the match to 1 -1. The battle kept on with strong, physical play by both teams. Not sitting back on their heels, Chantilly kept up the pace with Eileen Sechler sending a ball forward to Laila Gray who answered with another goal to make it 2 -1.
With skies darkening and everyone on their smartphones watching their weather apps, both teams kept up the hard play. On a Chantilly corner kick, Elizabeth Casey jumped up for a header that made it into the corner of the goal.

The Chantilly girls were lightning in a bottle in the second half and then the skies over Ashburn lit up with it's own lightning which sent everyone scurrying for cover. Both teams sat in their respective locker rooms getting updates on the weather. Could these two high powered teams get back on the field?
Sadly for Stone Bridge, their season would come to an end in the locker room as the officials called the game by 9:00pm with Chantilly winning the match 3 -1. To have two extremely talented teams end a game before a full 90 minutes is hard for both teams. The weather has played a role in many games this season for all our local sports teams. So to all you teams in Region play, play tough and hard every second as you never know what the weather will be.
