Christmas Day Crash In Chantilly Claims Another Victim
The deadly Christmas Day crash, allegedly caused by a drunk driver, has taken the life of a second person.

CHANTILLY, VA — A second person in a car that was rear-ended by a pickup truck on Route 50 in Chantilly on Christmas Day died Jan. 9 from injuries sustained in the crash, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Friday. The driver of the pickup truck, Martin V. Chavez of Sterling, has been charged with an additional count of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.
At around 8:20 a.m. on Dec. 25, Chavez, 56, allegedly ran into the back of the sedan that killed Rashida Begum, 78, of South Riding, a passenger in the sedan. Begum was declared dead at the scene. The crash happened on Route 50 near South Riding Boulevard in the Loudoun County part of Chantilly.
Another passenger, Mohammad R. Malik, 80, of Chantilly, died Thursday. Malik was among two occupants inside the sedan taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two other occupants were taken to the hospital with serious injuries but are expected to survive.

Along with the additional count of aggravated involuntary manslaughter, Chavez was charged with driving while intoxicated. A passenger in the pickup truck driven by Chavez was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
