Chantilly's Creative Dance Center Competition Team Earns Six World Championships at Star Dance Alliance

On August 5 – 7, the Chantilly based Creative Dance Center Competition Team (CDC*CT) crowned its award winning season at the Star Dance Alliance World Dance Championships held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. The CDC*CT made it to the finals, securing six first place championships and two second place championships in various divisions. Director Ms. Ginny Frye had this to say about the team’s accomplishments: “I am extremely proud. I am very fortunate to work with a very talented staff of choreographers/teachers, the very best parents, and the most amazing group of dancers any studio director could ever ask for!!!”

The Star Dance Alliance is a coalition of five top international dance competitions that come together for a World Championship. Nine of Creative Dance Center’s dances advanced from the World Dance Championship semi-finals to the the WDC finals, earning 6 World Championship Titles.

Dancers on the Creative Dance Center Competition Team, headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, compete at the regional, national, and world levels. Including the Ashburn and South Riding studio locations, approximately 195 boys and girls ranging in age from 4 to 18 compete in Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Open, Musical Theater and Contemporary categories. Although its primary focus is to provide a strong dance education, the CDC*CT program also stresses the principles of teamwork: working together towards mutual goals, building positive team spirit, and supporting fellow dancers. In addition to competing, dancers are provided opportunities to volunteer and/or perform for various charitable community organizations.

Creative Dance Center’s record-breaking season began in July 2013 when the CDC*CT won two Victory Cups at the Nexstar National Dance Competition in Sandusky, Ohio, and teachers Jamie and Staci Frye were named KARTv (Kids Artistic Review) Choreographers of the Year. The CDC*CT earned championship titles at the Believe competition against the Abby Lee Miller Dance Company, among others.

In 2014, the CDC*CT earned two Power Ranking appearances on the regional level, five Victory Cups, and 39 National Championship Titles at the 2014 Nexstar National Dance Competition in Sandusky, Ohio. Creative Dance Center earned its way to the World Championships by qualifying at regional and national competitions held by the members of the Star Dance Alliance, including Nexstar Talent and Starpower.

The CDC*CT alumni have gone on to become dance majors with the University of Virginia Dance Company, the George Mason University Dance Department, Florida State University, and the Towson University Dance Department. Alumni have also been accepted on dance teams at the University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, University of Delaware, James Madison University, Radford University, and Coastal Carolina University. Recently, CDC*CT dancers have been awarded opportunities to study with Alvin Ailey, The Joffrey Ballet, the Kirov Academy of Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet in New York City and Russia.
