When Dreams Come True: The Story of Joseph

Westfield High School Drama presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat through Saturday.

Over 300 spectacularly colorful costumes light up the auditorium at as the actors, dancers and musicians of take the stage in a riot of color, including, of course, the 28-color dreamcoat itself.

After their debut on Thursday, the students will perform the musical three more times this weekend: evening performances on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on Saturday at 2 p.m.

“Noted for its family-friendly storyline, universal theme and catchy music, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's spectacular Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a rollicking and raucous musical,” said Lori Knickerbocker in a press release.

The play is a musical interpretation of the Biblical story of Joseph, the youngest of 12 sons with a gift for prophetic dreams. Joseph’s father gifts his favorite son with a coat of many colors, and this, along with Joseph’s dream that he will one day rule over his brothers, prompts Joseph’s brothers to sell Joseph into slavery.

The story goes on to tell of how Joseph’s gift for dream interpretation saves him and reunites him with his family in repentance and forgiveness, encouraging the audience to never stop dreaming.

Susan Pike, Westfield Theatre teacher, directs the show will the help of vocal director Dolly Stevens and student choreographers Colby Dezelick and Avery Hobbs.

Tickets are $10 in advance at westfieldtheatreboosters.com or at the box office. They are also available at the door: $12 for general public and $10 for high school students with a valid Student ID.
