WTC Beams Arrive in PWC
Four steel beams recovered from the World Trade Center arrived in Prince William County Thursday.

Prince William County on Thursday became home to four steel beams salvaged from the wreckage of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The four steel beams arrived on trucks at the Sean T. Connaughton Plaza Thursday morning, where a brief ceremony marked their arrival.
"This is a piece of American History," said Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart. "The citizens of Prince William County for generations to come will have an opportunity to reach out and touch the steel and reflect on how Sept. 11, 2001 changed our world forever."

The county will hold a design competition to determine how the beams should be displayed. Stewart said the competition will be open to anyone from around the world, and that he is confident the end result will be a memorial that will "proudly honor the men and women who serve our nation and our communities."
