3 New Capital Bikeshare Stations Added in Alexandria
New stations were added in the City and there are more to come.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Three new stations were added to the Alexandria Capital Bikeshare network in February, according to the City. These stations were funded through developer contributions. The new stations can be found at the following locations:
- St. Asaph Street and Madison Street (next to the Harris Teeter)
- Commonwealth Avenue and Cameron Street (King Street Metro in front of The Hilton)
- Madison Street and Henry Street
Alexandria joined the regional Capital Bikeshare network in September 2012 with eight stations, and added eight more stations in Del Ray and Carlyle in August 2014.
Capital Bikeshare stations were added in the Del Ray and Carlyle areas in August 2014, doubling the size of the existing network in Alexandria. Alexandria station locations are selected from locations suggested by the public, and preferences shown on the interactive crowdsourcing map. Locations are evaluated using criteria including connectivity to transit to expand between metrorail stations, mixed-use activity centers,potential bicycle activity, proximity to other Capital Bikeshare stations, as well technical considerations. Some technical considerations include direct sunlight, at least 11’ X 32’ of space, sidewalk pedestrian clearance, flat ground and utility clearance.

City Council approved funding to pay for the operation of 16 new bikeshare stations in FY 2016. Proposed station locations were presented to the Transportation Commission in December 2014.
