Alexandria Chamber to Honor Lonnie Rich as 2014 Business Leader of the Year

Rich will be honored at annual Business Awards Reception Oct. 22 at Masonic Temple.

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce will honor Lonnie Rich as its 2014 Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year.

Rich, a partner at Rich Rosenthal Brincefield Manitta Dzubin & Kroeger, LLP, will be honored on Oct. 22 during the Chamber’s annual Business Awards Reception. This year’s event, at 6 p.m. at the George Washington Masonic Memorial, will also honor Alexandria businesses in the following categories: Large Business, Medium Business, Small Business, Association/Non-Profit and overall Business of the Year.

Born in Baton Rouge, Rich graduated in 1966 from Central High School in Memphis, Tenn. He earned a B.A. in History in 1970 from the University of Memphis, and his law degree in 1974 from the University of Memphis. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve (1970-1976). Rich began his legal career at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. During these early years of practice, he represented the Department in a wide range of personnel matters (grievances, adverse action, equal employment opportunity (EEO) complaints at the administrative and judicial level). He also represented the Department in administrative proceedings to terminate federal assistance under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. He was almost solely responsible for drafting proposed and final regulations under Title IX of the Education Amendments (prohibiting sex discrimination in federally assisted education programs).

In 1981, he entered private practice in the City of Alexandria and in 1986 joined the existing firm of Rosenthal, Grimaldi & Guggenheim. In 1998, the firm reorganized and became Rich Greenberg Rosenthal & Costle, LLP. Rich remained a principal with this firm until he formed a new firm in 2008, which is now RRBMDK, LLP.

Over the past 25 years, Rich’s practice has concentrated on wills, trusts, estate planning, estate administration, real estate, and business matters.

Rich has long been a highly respected leader in the civic and community affairs of the City of Alexandria, having served as an elected member of the City Council from 1991 through 2000. In recent years, he served as a Board member of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, including a term as Board Chair in 2005, and Chairman of The Campagna Center.
