Alexandria City Public Schools Make Jan 4 Weather Decision
Schools in Alexandria will be closed due to winter weather on Thursday, Jan. 4.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—With snow blanketing the area overnight, Alexandria City Public Schools are closed Thursday, Jan. 4. All school-related activities are cancelled, while emergency personnel, including building engineers, custodians, maintenance shop employees and security staff must still report.
The announcement comes as forecasters urged residents to prepare for a winter storm overnight. What forecasters are calling a "bomb cyclone" is expected to deliver blizzard conditions along the East Coast, including an inch or two in the Baltimore-Washington region.
Alexandria and other parts of the region are under a winter weather advisory, and the governor has issued a state of emergency to provide resources if needed. The National Weather Service has issued the advisory from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday to warn residents of potential snow-covered and slippery roads and limited visibility.

"Very cold conditions mean that snow will quickly stick on roads and sidewalks making the Thursday morning commute dangerous. Plan ahead and allow extra time to get to your destination if traveling late Wednesday night or Thursday," forecasters say.
