Alexandria Mayor, City Council To Get Pay Raises

The pay remains lower than salaries for elected officials in Arlington and Fairfax Counties.

ALEXANDRIA, VAโ€”Alexandria City Council approved pay increases for the mayor and council members at the Saturday, June 23 public hearing.

The council voted for a city task force's recommendations to change the mayor's salary from $30,500 to $41,600 and council members from $27,500 to $37,500. This is the first significant increase in 15 years, The Washington Post reported.

In comparison, Arlington County board members are paid $53,282, while the chair gets $59,610. Fairfax County board members get $95,000, and the chair gets $10,000 more. Officials in Falls Church and Fairfax City are paid less than Alexandria's.
