Art workshops: Try your hand at...

Grown-Ups Art Camp offers over 30 workshops (day, night, weekday, weekend)—for anyone and everyone—scheduled from June 29 through July 17, 2015. Register for as many workshops as you want!

A variety of workshops are being offered, including these four “try it” workshops: “Playing with Resin”, “Intro to Polymer Clay”, “Digital Photography Basics”, and “Paint Like the Masters: Techniques of Monet, Cezanne & Picasso”. No previous experience necessary.

Workshop: “Playing with Resin”
Date: Friday, July 3 from 3-6pm or Monday, July 13 from 3-6pm
Instructor: Tracy Wilkerson
Workshop Fee: $40 Del Ray Artisans members / $50 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $10
Class size: 5-12 participants

Learn how to use resin in your artwork. Come “play” with resin in a safe environment and learn the ins and outs of mixing resin and using it—as an adhesive, a covering, or the main medium. Finished “masterpieces” will need to stay at the gallery to dry. Please plan on returning the following week to pick up your creation.

Workshop: “Intro to Polymer Clay”
Date: Sunday, July 5 from 1-5pm
Instructor: Ken Reed
Workshop Fee: $36 Del Ray Artisans members / $46 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $10
Class size: 5-12 participants

Introduction to polymer clay and the tools used to shape it. Learn some basic techniques and how to combine them for more complex forms. The instructor will also demonstrate or discuss more advanced techniques. Students can execute a small jewelry or sculpture project.

Workshop: “Digital Photography Basics “
Date: Saturday, July 11 from 10am-3pm
Instructor: Stacy Rausch
Workshop Fee: $125 Del Ray Artisans members / $150 non-members
Class size: 6-15 participants

This 5-hour hands-on workshop (including a lunch break) will introduce students to their digital camera, and hopefully get them off the “program and/or auto” modes by the end of the day. We will spend some time talking about basic principles of photography, camera settings, rules of composition, etc. We will then venture outside near the gallery to shoot during a “mini-safari” of Del Ray to put your new knowledge into practice. After our shooting time we will download some selected images to a photo editing software program (Photoshop or Photoshop Elements) for a demo of basic editing skills (sizing, lightening, sharpening, saving).

Required Supplies: A Digital SLR camera or Point and Shoot camera with manual exposure mode capability, 1-2 memory cards, a fully charged battery, your camera’s full manual.

Workshop: “Paint Like the Masters: Techniques of Monet, Cezanne & Picasso”
Date: Sunday, July 12 from 1-4pm
Instructor: Leah Symonds
Workshop Fee: $70 Del Ray Artisans members / $80 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $40
Class size: 5-20 participants

The first 45-60 minutes will be a history overview of the techniques used by Monet, Cezanne, and Picasso - theories on their motivations for the paintings they created and how they compare and contrast. Maybe a fun little exercise to see if you can recognize which artist painted which artwork. The rest of the workshop will be working on a canvas.
