Brewski's Barkhaus Proposed At Old Flat Top Burger Location

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A new restaurant is aiming to open this summer in place of Flat Top Burger in Del Ray. Brewski's Barkhaus will be located at 529 East Howell Avenue, Alexandria.

Brewski's Barkhaus will be part restaurant and bar, part dog-friendly outdoor dining area. "Our goal is to provide an alternative to the typical adoption procedure by combining food, drinks, and dogs in a social environment," its website states.

The new restaurant applied for a special use permit related to the change of ownership and requested a minor amendment to increase the number of indoor and outdoor seats. The space currently has 48 indoor seats and would increase to a total of 70. Brewski's Barkhaus would also increase outdoor seating from 10 to 20. Parking spaces would be reduced from 12 to eight — 1 ADA accessible parking space would be provided.

The application says the restaurant would operate with counter service, and guests could bring food to the outdoor area. Possible menu items could include sandwiches, sliders, burgers, specialty sausages, hot dogs, tacos, fries, cold salads, wings, and flatbreads. Proposed hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Although Flat Top Burger closed, the restaurant's website says it will reopen at a new location. Details have not been announced.
