Dance & Theater workshops at Del Ray Artisans

Grown-Ups Art Camp offers over 30 workshops (day, night, weekday, weekend)—for anyone and everyone—scheduled from June 29 through July 17, 2015. Register for as many workshops as you want!

Four different performance art workshops are being offered: “Improv for Creativity”, “Beginning Argentine Tango, Anyone?”, ”Rueda Salsa”, and “Theater, Mime & Movement”. No previous experience necessary.

Workshop: “Improv for Creativity” (Introductory / All levels)
Date: Wednesday, July 1 from 6-8pm
Instructor: Keely Kirk
Workshop Fee: $35 members / $45 non-members
Class size: 5-15 participants

We live in an unscripted world. What is improv? How can improv help you as an artist? This workshop will answer these questions and more! If you are a musician, painter, dancer, singer, graphic designer, actor, writer, interior designer, landscape architect, curator, or any other type of artist then this workshop is for you! It will provide you with guided exploration in the elements of improvisation for creative development. It emphasizes the exploration of artistic impulses through spur-of-the-moment problem solving/creative risk-taking in a supportive learning environment. This workshop is designed to evoke your creative individuality and sense of freedom. Come and open your mind and allow for creative fusion!

This is a great introduction for beginners and those that have done improv before.

Workshop: “Beginning Argentine Tango, Anyone?”
Date: Thursday, July 9 from 6-8pm
Instructor: Marcelo Novo
Workshop Fee: $25 members / $35 non-members
Class size: 6-20 participants

This beginning Tango workshop is geared to introducing you into the world of Argentine Tango and to help you discover the possibilities and benefits of dancing this wonderful dance. Workshop will emphasize foundational concepts like the “Tango walk”, Posture, Basic Steps, Leading & Following, and Understanding of the Music, the Dance & the Culture.

Workshop: “Rueda Salsa”
Date: Friday, July 10 from 8-10pm
Instructor: Gustavo
Workshop Fee: $10 members / $15 non-members
Class size: 6-40 participants

Gustavo will be teaching the basics of Miami-style salsa in the format of rueda. What makes rueda style different than other styles of salsa is that the ‘pressure’ of one-on-one dancing is relieved as the dance is focused on the group as the whole as you have to work together to create the dance. Rueda allows everyone to learn the musicality and standard moves in a fun and often hilarious way through group calls and interaction!

Workshop: “Theater, Mime & Movement”
Date: Monday, July 13 from 10am-2pm
Instructor: David Camero
Workshop Fee: $75 members / $85 non-members
Class size: 7-20 participants

Based on the Ecole Jacques Lecoq method, this practice workshop encourages participants to recreate diverse characters with the invisible magic of movement, and the theatrical expression gesture.
