Del Ray Eatery Helps Federal Contractors, Workers Amid Shutdown

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Amid businesses offering specials for federal government employees during the shutdown, one Patch reader brought up a lesser-known group impacted: "How about the contractors that rely on the federal government for a paycheck, and get a stop work order. They can't work and won't get a paycheck when the government reopens."

One restaurant hasn't forgotten those contractors.

Del Ray's Pork Barrel BBQ announced Wednesday via Facebook it would offer free pulled pork sandwiches to furloughed government workers and federal contractors. The offer will run until the shutdown is over.

Pork Barrel BBQ joins Old Town's Diya Indian Cuisine and other regional businesses to give out specials during the shutdown. The restaurant is located at 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria.
