Del Ray Farmers Market's POP Kids' Club To Return In 2023

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Children can stay entertained with activities at the Del Ray Farmers Market with the returning Power of Produce Kids' Club.

The POP Club is a free program to educate children about nutrition, food, farming, and community. This is the second year the farmers market is offering the program.

"We are thrilled to bring this innovative program to neighboring families back to the market," said Pat Miller, the Del Ray Farmers Market founder and manager. "Engaging and connecting with children is one of the top priorities of our market."

The program is open to children between ages 4 and 12. It will be held the third Saturday of the month from April to September. Children can stop by the POP Kids' Club tent on Oxford Avenue between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. to participate in the monthly activity. After completing the activity, children will receive a $5 voucher from the Del Ray Farmers Market to use on local fruits and vegetables.

Here is the anticipated schedule of activities:

• April 15: Salsa scavenger hunt
• May 20: Organized tours of market
• June 17: Vegetable sensory taste test
• July 15: Find the market mascot (sunflowers) hidden in market
• Aug. 19: Farmer/vendor thank you cards
• Sept. 16: Pumpkin painting

The year-round Del Ray Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square at Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues. Miller, who founded the farmers market in 1994, received the 2023 Heart of Del Ray award given to a business or organization representing heart of the Del Ray community.
