ALEXANDRIA, VA — The August rendition of Del Ray's First Thursday will whisk you away to the tropical paradise of Hawaii. First Thursday: Aloha Thursday is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue.

The monthly street festivals take on a new theme every month. For Aloha Thursday, attendees are encouraged to hear their favorite Hawaiian shirt and enjoy themed activities, live music from Mars Rodeo and more. The event is free and open to all.

Every First Thursday benefits a local nonprofit. The August nonprofit is Friends of Guest House, which has helped over 3,000 women break the cycle of incarceration and rejoin their communities and families. Needed items include composition notebooks, colored pencils, Alcoholics Anonymous books, and women's cotton underwear (sizes small to XL). Donations can be dropped off during First Thursday at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues).
