Drawing workshops (inside and outside!)

Grown-Ups Art Camp offers over 30 workshops (day, night, weekday, weekend)—for anyone and everyone—scheduled from June 29 through July 17, 2015. Register for as many workshops as you want!

Four different drawing workshops and events are being offered: “Nature Journaling: Drawing & Observing Nature Anywhere” workshop, “Sketch Crawl” event, “Dynamic Figure Drawing” workshop, and “Life Drawing: Long Pose Session” event.

No previous experience necessary. More information below on each individually. Register in advance to reserve your spot!

Workshop: “Nature Journaling: Drawing & Observing Nature Anywhere”
Date: Wednesday, July 1 from 3-5pm
Instructor: Margaret Wohler
Workshop Fee: $35 members / $45 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $5
Class size: 3-15 participants

Drawing natural subjects is more than creating pretty pictures; it teaches artists to really see the outdoor world, right in your neighborhood! Students learn to observe, and realistically render, natural subjects by keeping a nature journal and sketchbook.

Event: “Sketch Crawl”
Date: Friday, July 3 from 9:30am-1pm
Coordinator: Katherine Rand
Workshop Fee: $10 members / $20 non-members
Class size: 6-20 participants

Join us for a morning of sketching in the picturesque Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. We will start our journey at a local cafe and work our way up Mount Vernon Avenue, sketching on the way. At midday we will gather at the Del Ray Artisans’ gallery where a light lunch will be served.

While there will be no formal instruction, there will be plenty of encouragement. No experience is required and all you need to bring is a sketchbook, a pencil or pen and a positive attitude.

Workshop: “Dynamic Figure Drawing”
Date: Monday, July 6 from 7-9pm
Instructor: Marcelo Novo
Workshop Fee: $40 members / $50 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $10
Class size: 5-14 participants

A figure drawing is a drawing of the human form in any of its various shapes and postures using any of the drawing media. Life drawing is a drawing of the human figure from observation of a live model. A figure drawing can be a sketch on its own merit, or a study done in preparation for a final more finished work. Students will learn basic ways to create a drawing of a human figure from life, understand proportions, and use different techniques such as graphite pencils, charcoal, etc. There will be a model for the workshop.

Life Drawing Session: Long Pose
Date: Sunday, July 12 from 5:30-8:30pm
Workshop Fee: $10 members / $12 non-members
Class size: 5-15 participants

Looking for a chance to hone your figure drawing skills? Del Ray Artisans offers open life drawing sessions for just this purpose. All skill levels are welcome.

This long pose session features a nude model and is composed of two long poses with a few warm-ups at the beginning of the session.

Bring: Your supplies to draw or paint. No acrylics or oils. Pencils, pens, charcoal, pastels, watercolor and ink are permissible. You may also wish to bring an easel.
