First Thursday Activities Cancelled; Military Discounts Still On

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Due to the extreme heat, outdoor activities of Del Ray's First Thursday: Red, White & Blue have been cancelled for Thursday, July 13. Local businesses will offer specials for military members as planned.

The street festival, which has a different theme and nonprofit cause each month, is held every first Thursday April to September along Mount Vernon Avenue.

Residents can still drop off Dr. Seuss books for July's nonprofit, United Through Reading. The organization allows service members to video record storybooks to their children at home. The organization strives to address the bedtime stories children miss when their family members are deployed. Donations are being collected on the front porch at 110 E. Del Ray Avenue (next to the parking lot behind St. Elmo's Coffee Pub.

Discounts are available to military members from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. The full list of participating businesses and their specials are:
