Indian Restaurant Seeks To Replace Bombay Curry Company

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Fans of Del Ray's Bombay Curry Company could see a similar restaurant open in the same spot at 2607 Mount Vernon Avenue. An Indian restaurant called Spice Kraft Indian Bistro applied for a change in ownership to open at the old Bombay Curry Company location.

The restaurant plans to offer the same Indian food, according to the application. Bombay Curry Company was known for serving a variety of curries and kabob, as well as Tandoori chicken wings and other Indian specialties.

Prospective owners must apply for a change in ownership if the existing special use permit has ownership restrictions. There are no proposed changes to the hours or the restaurant layout.

Bombay Curry Company, a fixture in Del Ray since 1995, closed in January. Owners Nicky and Balraj Bhasin said in a Facebook post the decision resulted from "staffing challenges, a need for Balraj to focus on his health, as well as some family matters that have been put on the back burner for quite some time."
