Interior Designers Open Shop in Alexandria
Two interior designers are bringing their experience in finding custom-fit decor to homes in the Alexandria area.
ALEXANDRIA, VA--Two interior designers opened a home decor store in Old Town Alexandria that offers custom design services. Co-owners and design veterans Susan Nelson and Todd Martz offer their collection of decor and design services in a former tobacco warehouse at 315 Cameron Street across from City Hall.
The collection includes upholstered furniture, custom dining, console and coffee tables by a local D.C. cabinetmaker, antiques, couture chandeliers, colorful ceramics, wooden toys and dog items. Their design services include home visits to determine the best decor options for the setting.
The grand opening for the public will is Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 20. Customers will have the chance to win a two-hour, in-home design consultation and home décor items.

Regular store hours will be Tuesday by appointment, Wednesday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon-4 p.m. At least one of the owners will be there during store hours, and customers can make appointments outside of store hours.
The two designers bring a combined 35 years of experience to the new store. Nelson told Patch the partnership works well, because customers can get the best of their two different design approaches.

Nelson has participated in DC Design House and her work has been featured in Home and Design and Traditional Home, and Martz was named Washington Post’s Designer’s Under Forty to Watch and has appeared on HGTV and featured in Washington Post Magazine, Elle Décor, Architectural Digest and Home & Design.
As the designers settle into their new shop, they bring ideas that can work in Old Town Alexandria's historic homes. "The homes are historic and it's important to respect that, but you can have some fun with it, bring color in," said Nelson.
