Jewelry-making workshops at Del Ray Artisans

Grown-Ups Art Camp offers over 30 workshops (day, night, weekday, weekend)—for anyone and everyone—scheduled from June 29 through July 17, 2015. Register for as many workshops as you want!

Five different jewelry-making workshops are being offered: “Copper Necklace”, “Intro to Wire Jewelry Techniques”, “Kumihimo Necklace”, “Recycled Bling: Aluminum Can Earrings” and “Stained Glass Pendant”. No previous experience necessary. More information below on each of these workshops.

Workshop: “Copper Necklace”
Date: Wednesday, July 1 from 10am-1:30pm
Instructor: Kim Joy
Workshop Fee: $25 Del Ray Artisans members / $35 non-members

Need to get some stress out? If you like noise, this is the class for you! Using only copper wire and beads, you will make a one-of-a-kind necklace. No experience necessary. The provided supply kit includes copper wore, beads, jump rings and chain. Tools available for use during class.

Workshop: “Intro to Wire Jewelry Techniques”
Date: Thursday, July 2 from 1-4pm OR Thursday, July 16 from 6-9pm
Instructor: Tamara Wilkerson
Workshop Fee: $40 Del Ray Artisans members / $50 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $15
Class size: 3-8 participants

This workshop is for individuals who are interested in learning basic techniques of wire jewelry. You will get to experiment with different tools and wire sizes, while creating basic and useful jewelry components. Bring your patience and be ready to work in small detail. No prior experience necessary - if you have never picked up a jewelry tool before, this workshop is for you!

Workshop: “Kumihimo Necklace”
Date: Thursday, July 9 from 9:30am-1pm
Instructor: Kim Joy
Workshop Fee: $25 Del Ray Artisans members / $35 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $20
Class size: 3-6 participants

Using a marudai, you will learn to weave a kumihimo necklace in the same wa a samurai’s belt is woven. When the necklace is done, it can be embellished with beads. The provided supply kit includes yarn, thread, cones, clasp, wire and beads. Marudai will be available for use during class.

Workshop: “Recycled Bling: Aluminum Can Earrings”
Date: Friday, July 10 from 10am-12:30pm
Instructor: Barb Boatman
Workshop Fee: $45 Del Ray Artisans members / $55 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $10
Class size: 5-15 participants

Want to make a fashion statement this summer? Then join the fun and make your own unique earring from your favorite aluminum beverage can. Participants will use scrapbook punches to cut earring shapes, which will be embossed with a Cutterbug Machine. These light weight accessories are so much fun you’ll want to make them for all your friends. All supplies and some tools provided. Instructor will have 100s of pre-cut cans. But, if you want a specific color, flavor, or brand bring 2 clean (un-cut) aluminum cans for each pair of earrings you want to make. A complete list of tools will be provided at registration.

Workshop: “Stained Glass Pendant”
Date: Tuesday, July 14 from 2-5:30pm
Instructor: Kim Joy
Workshop Fee: $25 Del Ray Artisans members / $35 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $20
Class size: 3-8 participants

Create little works of art using stained glass techniques. You will learn to cut, grind, layer, wrap with copper foil and solder pieces. The finished piece will be a reversible pendant. Supply kit provided includes glass, printed matter, copper foil, flux, solder, jump rings, and beads. Supplies from students: copies of photos or printed matter that can be sandwiched between 1” x 3” (or 2”) square pieces of clear glass. Tools available for use during class.
