National Night Out: Over 30 Block Parties Planned In Alexandria
Around 30 neighborhoods are holding block parties on Aug. 1 as part of National Night Out.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Here's a reason (if you need one) to throw a block party. Police and neighborhoods across Alexandria are celebrating National Night Out, an annual "neighborhood watch" kind of effort focusing on crime prevention. The event is Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Police Chief Michael Brown Members of City Council, City Manager Mark Jinks, and other officials will visit residents throughout Alexandria.
In addition, Alexandria Police's K-9 Unit, Motor Unit, Bike Patrol, Command Bus, Armored Personnel Carrier, and Crime Scene Mobile Lab will visit and offer demonstrations.

While safe neighborhoods are a common goal among Alexandria residents, the event provides an opportunity for residents to meet each other and share their ideas and concerns. Alexandria Police describe the event as a platform to "strengthen neighborhood spirit and law enforcement community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back."
