New Tex-Mex Restaurant Opens In Former Elo's Italian Location In Del Ray

A new Mexican restaurant is open in the former location of Elo's Italian, which closed at the end of March.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A new Tex-Mex restaurant is open in the former location of Elo's Italian in Del Ray.

Dos Hermanos Fine Tex-Mex opened this week at 1603 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, VA. The owners are Elmer Cruz Villatoro and Wilmer Cruz Villatoro, according to the special use permit application filed with the city. The owners are brothers who seek to share their recipes with the neighborhood.

The business replaces the owners' Dos Amigos in Springfield, which was planned to closed March 31. Washington Business Journal first reported that Dos Amigos relocated from Springfield, where Costco plans to expand its current location on the site.

The location was previously occupied by Elo's Italian, which closed at the end of March. The owners, Chef Justus Frank and Jeremy Barber, The Garden, will remain open at 1503 Mount Vernon Avenue. They are planning to open another restaurant, Mill St. Draft Garden, in Occoquan.

Dos Hermanos offers full bar service and serves up a menu of Tex-Mex appetizers, salads, soups, fajitas, meats, Mexican platters, burgers, sandwiches and desserts. Fajitas are available in different varieties, from veggie to grilled steak, Mahi-Mahi, and tilapia and shrimp. Combination platters allow diners to mix and match tacos and enchiladas. Other favorites like lomo saltado, steak Laredo, heuvos rancheros, Monterrey chicken, and chile rellenos are on the menu. A children's menu is also available.
