Police Meeting Monday Night on Fatal Shooting

A man was fatally shot Thursday night in Alexandria. Police are meeting with the community to address concerns.

The Alexandria Police Department is holding a community meeting at Charles Houston Recreation Center tonight at 7 p.m. to address community concerns regarding the homicide that occurred Thursday night.

Concerned residents are invited to discuss this incident and further the communication between the Police Department and the community. The rec center is located at 901 Wythe St.

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the shooting that occurred Thursday night in the 700 block of N. Fayette Street.

At approximately 11:32 p.m., officers responded to the area for a shooting, police said. The victim, 22-year-old Shakkan Elliot-Tibbs, of Woodbridge, was located by police suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Alexandria Police. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Elliott-Tibbs was found in an apartment complex courtyard, according to a report by WUSA-9. Elliot-Tibbs was visiting a cousin and was getting ready to head to the Metro to meet his mother at the Springfield metro station, NBC-4 reported.

This is the first homicide in Alexandria this year, according to police.
