Power Company Prepares for Snowstorm

Dominion has 62,142 customers in Alexandria and has begun adding extra personnel and resources for any possible outages this weekend.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Dominion Power is preparing for a possible snowstorm for the DC metro area that could bring significant accumulations of snow and high winds, according to weather forecasts.

The power company counts 865,349 customers in Northern Virginia and 62,142 in the City of Alexandria.

Snow and wind could bring down trees and power lines, causing widespread outages and making travel difficult, the power company points out.

The company started preparing for the storm earlier this week, bringing in extra personnel and resources in anticipation of severe weather, according to a Dominion spokesman.

“Our crews, personnel and employees are gearing up to respond to this storm,” said Dominion spokesman Charles E. “Chuck” Penn Sr.

Power customers can bookmark Dominion’s outage map to see how significant an outage might be in their area or check on others — the new design makes it easier to track power outages and restoration progress, the company points out: www.dom.com/outages. You can bookmark any location for future reference. The new map is compatible with all mobile devices.

Dominion is encouraging its customers to prepare now for possible power outages that could occur as early as Friday, as there is a potential for heavy snow and high winds move through the area. Customers should put together an emergency preparedness kit with needed supplies such as flashlights, water, medicines, portable radios, extra batteries and non-perishable goods.
