Widespread Power Outages Resolved In Alexandria Friday Night

Customers experienced power outages with flickering on Friday night in the city.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Widespread outages affected Alexandria and Arlington residents Friday night, according to Dominion Energy.

Before 8 p.m., Mayor Justin Wilson noted over 13,000 customers were experiencing outages. According to Dominion Energy's outage map, impacted neighborhoods included Del Ray, Potomac Yard, North Ridge, Rosemont, Seminary Hill and more.

After 8 p.m. Dominion Energy spokesperson Peggy Fox said the outages were related to a circuit at a substation. At 8:46 p.m., she reported that power had been restored to customers.

But residents continued to report having the power flicker. Fox then reported that more outages were occurring and crews were working on the issue.

At 10 p.m., a tweet from Dominion Energy said most customers should have power back within the next hour. By midnight, the outage map no longer displayed outages in Alexandria.

Alexandria Police said the outages have resulted in intersections without power. Drivers were asked to treat dark intersections as four-way stops.
