Replacement Restaurant For Stomping Ground Opens In Del Ray

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The old Stomping Ground location has new life with a new concept from the same owner.

Rubia's Tacos is now open in the former Stomping Ground space at 2309 Mount Vernon Avenue after the biscuit concept closed at the end of April. Chef Nicole Jones had announced Stomping Ground would be replaced with a new concept after the biscuit restaurant "survived" but "didn't flourish" during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jones also owns the adjacent Bagel Uprising in Del Ray and Old Town's new Virginia's Darling and Mae's Market & Cafe.

Rubia's Tacos debuted this week with breakfast offerings. Brunch, dinner and margaritas are expected to be added in the coming weeks.

Highlights of the breakfast menu include breakfast tacos on tortillas made in house. There are meat options like chorizo and potato, as well as bacon, egg and cheese. Vegetarian offerings are avocado and egg, and bean breakfast tacos. Diners can also grab fresh cut fruit cups, pineapple croissants, guava danishes and more.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Friday for breakfast. When weekend brunch is introduced, hours will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Lunch service will be 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, and dinner will be 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
