Report: Therapist Accused of Having Sex with Teen Client in Alexandria Office

A therapist who worked in Alexandria is accused of having sex with a teen client in his former Alexandria office, according to a report Monday night by NBC-4.

An Alexandria grand jury has indicted the local therapist with six counts of “taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in custodial or supervisory relationship,” the TV station reported.

The therapist, Gary Hankins, is a licensed clinical social worker whose name no longer appears on the office Web site where he reportedly worked, Counseling and Forensic Services, located at 1423 Powhatan St. in Alexandria. Hankins, an Arlington resident, faces up to 30 years in jail.

NBC-4 reports that the teen’s parents contacted police after finding sexually suggestive texts allegedly from the therapist on their son’s phone.

Prosecutors told The Washington Post they do not currently suspect there are other victims.
