Driver Remains Hospitalized After Route 1 Crash In Alexandria
A driver struck a wall between the road and sidewalk on Richmond Highway, according to Alexandria Police.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police continue to investigate a single-vehicle crash on Route 1 Tuesday.
The crash happened around 6:29 a.m. at Richmond Highway and Potomac Avenue. Police say a white Ford Escape heading north a Richmond Highway crossed the median into the southbound lanes and struck the wall separating the sidewalk from the street.
A military physician who witnessed the crash provided medical aid until the Alexandria Fire Department arrived. The driver, a 60-year-old man, was taken to the hospital. He remains in critical but stable condition.

The Route 1 bridge between Slaters Lane and Potomac Avenue was temporarily closed for the crash investigation. Both northbound and southbound lanes have reopened.
