Hawaiian-Themed First Thursday Postponed In Del Ray
Wear your best Hawaiian attire (pets too) and head to the tiki bar for Del Ray's monthly street festival on Aug. 9.

UPDATE: Due to anticipated inclement weather, First Thursday has been postponed to Thursday, Aug. 9.
While some of us jet off to fun destinations during summer, we can all at least pretend we're in paradise. First Thursday in Del Ray will do just that on Aug. 9 with an "Aloha Thursday" themed street festival. The street festival features live music, themed activities, and more at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenue).
The event is free and open to all and is held 6 p.m. to dusk. August's festivities include a contest for attendees sporting the most outrageous Hawaiian shirt or Aloha outfit (pets can participate too!). Participants will compete for prizes at 7:30 a.m. at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square. Other highlights are a tiki bar at the Bean Creative Field held by @home real estate, a photo booth, Titan Robotics demonstrations and more.

Every month, the street festival benefits a different local cause. This month's nonprofit is Hunger Free Alexandria, which fights hunger in the community. Attendees are asked to bring donations of canned fruit in fruit juice, canned meat and boxes of single-serving packets of oatmeal to Pat Miller Neighborhood Square.
Held the first Thursday from April to September along Mount Vernon Avenue, First Thursday is a series of free outdoor street festivals that bring the community together around a fun theme, benefiting a local nonprofit. The August event is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association and The LizLuke Team.
