Signs Point to Sugar Shack Opening Soon in Alexandria

Love donuts? Get ready.

The countdown is on for donut-lovers around Alexandria, as they watch the progress toward the opening of Sugar Shack at 804 N. Henry St. in town. The hand-crafted donut flavors run the gamut, from Maple Bacon to Caramel Apple Cake.

The baking emporium is tantalizing future customers with updates on its Facebook and Twitter pages, mainly with posts of construction photos and information about passing city inspections. But the photos of donuts (doughnuts?) are what likely excites residents most.

The bakery has its roots in Richmond, where it counts three bakery locations. Owner Rob Krupicka, who also represents the 45th District in the Virginia House of Delegates, teased potential customers this week with these messages:

“Getting ready to head to Richmond & also open @NOVADonuts Sugar Shack store in Alexandria at same time. Taking my sweet and sour together...” On Sunday, a message noted it would be “weeks not months” before the Sugar Shack opening.

Lucky for Alexandria residents, Krupicka’s travels to Richmond also led him to Sugar Shack. “Like everyone in Richmond, I quickly fell in love with the sometimes unusual, but always delicious, donuts from Sugar Shack. I couldn’t believe that we didn’t have something like this in Alexandria so I set about figuring out how to fix that,” said Krupicka in August when he announced that the new business was coming to Alexandria.
