Alexandria's Spring2Action Fundraiser Reaches $2.5 Million Goal In 2022

Spring2Action, a day of giving to support local causes in Alexandria, had over 7,000 donors contribute to 172 organizations.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria residents showed their generosity for the annual Spring2Action day of giving Wednesday, raising over $2.5 million for local organizations.

Spring2Action is known as Alexandria's Giving Day and typically happens in April. For over a decade, ACT for Alexandria has spearheaded the day of giving to promote donations to organizations that serve Alexandria.

This year, Spring2Action surpassed its goal of $2.5 million, and the total continues to grow as more donations come in. So far, over 7,300 donors have contributed to 172 nonprofits. Over 75 businesses also participated.

"It's remarkable, incredible, unbelievable. It's just such an amazing day," said Heather Peeler, ACT for Alexandria president and CEO in a video message at the end of Spring2Action. "The ACT team and I are just filled with such gratitude for all of our partners and all of you who played an important role in making today such a success and such a celebration of our nonprofit community in Alexandria."

Various businesses and organizations held their own Spring2Action fundraisers to encourage residents and customers to donate. Some of the top fundraisers were the City of Alexandria with over $24,000, Del Ray Business Association with over $20,000, Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post with over $14,000 each, and McEnearney Associates REALTORS with over $10,000.

Aside from encouraging donations from individual donors, Spring2Action gives additional funds to the leaders in various categories. For the organizations receiving the most donors, prizes are awarded from first to fifth place based on the size of their operating budget — up to $100,000 for small, $100,000 to $500,000 for medium, and over $500,000 for large. Prizes were also given to organizations with the most donors in the Free Agent Fundraiser.

1. Alexandria Singers ($1,500)

1. ALIVE! ($1,500)

2. Alexandria Soccer Association ($750)

3. Carpenter's Shelter ($500)

4. Art League ($250)

5. Friends of Guest House ($100)

Most donors - Free Agent Fundraiser

1. Urban Alliance ($1,500)

2. Arts on the Horizon ($750)

3. UpCycle Creative Reuse Center ($500)

4. RunningBrooke ($250)

5. Nueva Vida (New Life) ($100)

Organizations that raised the most funds received a $1,000 prize. The winners were named in three categories: small with an operating budget under $100,000, medium with a budget between $100,000 and $1 million and large with a budget over $1 million.
