ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Sushi Bar has closed in Del Ray but has a temporary pop-up open and permanent replacement in the works.

While the Sushi Bar has closed at 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue, the HomeGrown Restaurant Group has brought a new concept to the space. A new holiday pop-up bar called Joy on the Avenue is open for the holiday season daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. After the holiday season, the restaurant group will prepare to introduce a new concept in 2022.

Last week, the Sushi Bar shared the news of the closing on its Facebook page. The restaurant group's adjacent restaurants, Pork Barrel BBQ and Holy Cow Del Ray, are open.

"We have made the decision to close the sushi bar and move in a different direction with this space," read the closing announcement on Facebook.

While the new concept for 2022 has not been announced, Joy on the Avenue makes use of the space with festive libations and bites. The menu includes food such as turkey and cranberry sliders, beef and vegetable Gyoza dumplings, and fried funnel cake sticks with marshmallow dip. Pair that with cocktails like the Gin'gle Bells (Citadelle gin, campari, house pear ginger simple, fresh lime juice, angostura bitters, cava), Call It a Classic (Amaretto, Tito's vodka, house cinnamon simple, egg nog) and more. Red, white and rosé wines are also available.
