Suspect in Custody After Shooting on Mount Vernon Avenue
Incident may have been gang-related, police say. Victim suffered a gunshot wound, according to police.

The Alexandria Police Department arrested Juan Carlos Garay, 24, of Alexandria, in connection with the shooting Tuesday night in the 4100 block of Mount Vernon Avenue. Alexandria Police have charged Garay with Malicious Wounding, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Gang Participation.
Police say that at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, they responded to a report of a shooting. The male victim was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to the hip, police said.
The shooting occurred after an argument, during which the suspect made reference to a criminal street gang, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
