Upcycle to make Art

Grown-Ups Art Camp offers over 30 workshops (day, night, weekday, weekend)—for anyone and everyone—scheduled from June 29 through July 17, 2015. Register for as many workshops as you want!

Four different upcycle-focused workshops are being offered: “Make an Upcycled Tote Bag”, “Recycled Bling: Aluminum Can Earrings”, “Christmas In July: Recycled Holiday Postcards”, and “Creating Texture With Tissue Paper”. More information below on each workshop.

Workshop: “Make an Upcycled Tote Bag”
Date: Tuesday, July 7 from 1-5pm OR 6-10pm
Instructor: Jen Athanas
Workshop Fee: $55 Del Ray Artisans members / $65 non-members
Class size: 6-10 participants

Join the green movement with a hand-crafted tote made from recycled fabrics. In this workshop, you will learn to evaluate recycled fabrics such as old clothing or vintage housewares and see how they can be repurposed. You will then create and sew a roomy tote bag. Each student will leave the class with a one-of-a-kind creation to impress friends, strangers and everyone at the farmers’ market. Each person will need to have basic sewing skills AND bring a sewing machine and sewing supplies. The instructor will also provide a suggested list of supplies closer to the workshop date.

Workshop: “Recycled Bling: Aluminum Can Earrings”
Date: Friday, July 10 from 10am-12:30pm
Instructor: Barb Boatman
Workshop Fee: $45 Del Ray Artisans members / $55 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $10
Class size: 5-15 participants

Want to make a fashion statement this summer? Then join the fun and make your own unique earring from your favorite aluminum beverage can. Participants will use scrapbook punches to cut earring shapes, which will be embossed with a Cutterbug Machine. These light weight accessories are so much fun you’ll want to make them for all your friends. All supplies and some tools provided. Instructor will have 100s of pre-cut cans. But, if you want a specific color, flavor, or brand bring 2 clean (un-cut) aluminum cans for each pair of earrings you want to make. A complete list of tools will be provided at registration.

Workshop: “Christmas In July: Recycled Holiday Postcards”
Date: Friday, July 10 from 2-6pm
Instructor: Barb Boatman
Workshop Fee: $65 Del Ray Artisans members / $75 non-members
Plus Supply Fee: $10
Class size: 5-10 participants

It’s never too early to start working on your holiday greeting cards! Join this workshop and learn a quick 3-step process to turn discarded junk mail postcards into recycled seasonal fun. Participants will collage the front of postcards with mixed papers. Pine trees pre-cut from recycled aluminum soda cans will then be machine stitched over the collage. In step 3, participants complete each card by machine stitching a finishing paper to the back. Completed cards can be mailed without an envelope. All supplies provided, except your sewing machine, thread and needles. Complete suggested supply list will be sent after registration.

Date: Saturday, July 11 from 4-7pm

Got tissue paper leftover from the holidays, birthday celebrations, and shopping sprees? Learn how to tear it, roll it, twist it, feather it, paint it, and otherwise manipulate it to create texture in mixed media pieces ranging from canvases to dioramas and small sculptures.
