Alpha Phi Alpha looking for scholarship applicants

Historically African-American Fraternity Will Award 10 High-Achieving Seniors in Fairfax County

The Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington (JGH) Educational and Charitable Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with the Zeta Upsilon Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Inc., will be accepting applications for the 2017 Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington (JGH) Jewel Scholarship until Feb. 24. JGH will present 10 area high school seniors each a $1,500 scholarship award. The scholarship awardees will be presented at the 37th Black & Gold gala being held at Westfields Marriott Hotel on April 8 with more than 400 guests celebrating the students' achievements.

The JGH scholarship committee will evaluate student academic achievement, community service history, extracurricular activities and recommendations to determine scholarship awardees. The award also requires the local area students to be graduating seniors enrolling in an accredited 4-year college or university for the Fall 2017-18 school year.

For over 36 years, the Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington Educational & Charitable Foundation, Inc. and members of the Zeta Upsilon Lambda Chapter have provided educational opportunities for students and scholarships for local area college-bound high school seniors.
