Assistance League Delivers 900 Smiles for the Holidays
Non-profit Helps Families with Food and Clothing

Assistance League of Northern Virginia provided nearly 900 reasons for good cheer in December, delivering grocery gift cards and winter wear items and clothing to students.
Continuing its efforts to help food-insecure families, the charity again delivered grocery gift cards to families at the six elementary schools that had been receiving weekend food bags. Since June of this year, Assistance League has delivered about 2,750 grocery cards, valued at about $47,000 to those six schools. Since April 2020, the nonprofit has provided more than 8,600 cards, worth more than $164,000. Counselors continue to report how essential these cards have been for parents still struggling with the effect of the pandemic.
Assistance League members also delivered almost 500 pieces of clothing earlier this month after receiving input from counselors regarding the specific needs of students at 10 of the schools it serves. The items provided included coats, gloves, pants, leggings, sweatshirts and sweat pants. In addition, the charity provided handmade scarves and hats, and shirts that had been donated to the chapter. One school counselor reported distributing the much-needed winter outerwear to students the same day she received them.
