I-66/I-495 Interchange Delays, Closures Overnight This Weekend

FAIRFAX, VA — Motorists traveling near the I-495 and I-66 interchange this weekend can expect overnight delays and detours, as well as lane and ramp closures due to bridge beam installation work by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

During overnight hours from Friday through Sunday, all northbound traffic on I-495 approaching I-66 will be detoured to the northbound express lanes. Drivers will not be assessed a fee for traveling on these lanes during the detour. At the same time, VDOT will close the ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North.

Drivers on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway (I-495 North) should expect delays this weekend as traffic is reduced to a single lane on the approach to the I-66/I-495 Interchange. Travelers are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

All of this weekend's roadwork, which is part of the ongoing Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project, is weather dependent. Work will be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.

I-66/I-495 Interchange closures this weekend:

• I-495 North traffic approaching I-66 will be reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday; 10 p.m.-8 a.m. on Saturday; and 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Sunday.
• All northbound I-495 traffic will be diverted into the 495 Express Lanes North around 10 p.m. each night at I-66. No Express Lane tolls will be charged during the detour.
• All lanes reopen by 6 a.m. on Saturday; by 8 a.m on Sunday; and by 4 a.m. on Monday.
• Northbound 495 Express Lanes will be reduced to a single lane from the Robinson Terminal to I-66 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday; 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday; and 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Sunday. No Express Lane tolls will be charged during the detour.
• The ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North will be closed Friday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Saturday 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.; and Sunday 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Drivers will be directed to take the left exit to the 495 Express Lanes North. No Express Lane tolls will be charged during the detour.
