The website GoodCall has Fairfax ranked No. 40 among the best 100 cities in which to retire. It's one of four Virginia entries on the list.

FAIRFAX, VA — Looking for a nice place to retire? If you live in the city, you might consider staying right where you are. That's because the website GoodCall has Fairfax ranked No. 40 among the best 100 cities in which to retire in the United States. It's one of four Virginia entries on the list, the others being Salem (46th), Christiansburg (85th) and Staunton (88th).

The rankings were based on cities that offer the most accommodating and well-rounded environments for seniors. The website evaluated 1,662 cites with fewer than 45,000 residents. Categories included the percentage of residents 65 and older, access to health care, health care affordability, weather, amenities and crime rate.
