You can help a child in need

Foster parents are giving individuals who can help children and teens heal the hurt of their pasts. What does it take to be a foster parent? What can you do to help these kids?

When I started working for United Methodist Family Services two years ago, I didn't know much about foster care or foster kids. I vaguely knew that children could be removed from their parents because of abuse or neglect. I really never gave it a second thought as to what that really meant or how it impacts a child. I never, ever thought about the foster parents.

Fastforward two years and let me tell you that I have heard stories that make my skin crawl. For example, a young girl came to UMFS after having been sexually abused by her father. I'll spare you the details. I've seen kids who are absolutely starved for attention, love and sometimes even food.

I share this with you because a loving foster parent has helped each of these kids heal from their pasts. Here's where you come in. If you are reading this, hopefully it  means that you have a heart for helping children. So do we at UMFS. How can you help you might be thinking? We need foster parents!!
