Cavaliers Move On To Northern Region Championship

The Woodson Cavaliers dominated the Chantilly Chargers with a 3-0 victory Wednesday night at James Madison High School.

As Woodson forward Teresa Fruchterman leapt a fallen Chantilly defender and scored the third and final goal of the day, the Chargers' hopes of coming back ended and the Cavs placed themselves in the Northern Region championship game.

Scattered rain showers throughout the game seemingly had no effect on either team.

Junior Elizabeth Gaski and senior Erin Havard scored the other two goals for the Cavaliers. Havard also had an assist in the game.

Woodson’s relentless offensive attack throughout the game was simply too much for the Chargers. The Cavaliers dominated possession of the ball and kept Chantilly from seeing any easy goal-scoring opportunities.

Senior goalkeeper Marlee Stynchula played a remarkable game finishing with three saves in the game.

Woodson senior midfielder Danielle King was announced as the Northern Region player of the year after the game.

Her teammates Jessica Ferarri, Teresa Fruchterman and Elizabeth Gaski were also named to the All Region team.

The victory places Woodson in the Northern Region championship game against the McLean Highlanders Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Madison High School.
