However, as the length of time since vaccination has increased, we are starting to see reduced protection, particularly for mild or moderate COVID-19 infection. For individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine made by Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, the following groups are now eligible for a single booster shot at six months or more after completing their initial series:
For individuals who received the COVID-19 vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson (Janssen), a single booster shot is recommended at two months or more after receiving the initial vaccination for all persons 18 years of age and up.
Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine to receive as a booster dose. Booster doses can be received before, on the same day, or after getting the flu shot.
Booster doses will be available from healthcare providers, pharmacies, local Health Department clinics and the Community Vaccination Center (CVC) in Tysons. Health Department vaccination dispensing sites will supply the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but do not have the Johnson & Johnson doses. J & J, however, will be available at the CVC in Tysons.
All COVID-19 vaccinations remain free of charge.
