Patch Shares The Academic Achievements Of College Students From Fairfax City Area

Patch recognizes college students from the Fairfax City area who have excelled academically or recently graduated from their schools.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — To shine a light on the academic achievements of college students from Fairfax City, Patch shares information provided the students' families and Merit News.

Megan Burgess of Fairfax graduated during the fall semester/term 2 of the 2021/2022 academic year at Troy University in Troy, Alabama. Burgess graduated with an associate of science in general education degree.

Michaela Whearty, a health science OT major from Fairfax, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2021 semester at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Full-time SFU students earn a spot on the dean's list by taking 12 or more credits with a grade point average of 3.500.

Tessa Bassett of Fairfax has been named was one the more than 5,000 students named to the fall 2021 dean's list at Ohio University University College in Athens, Ohio. To be name to the dean's list, a student must average a 3.5 grade point average for the semester and carry 15 or more credit hours.

Darby Schmidt of Fairfax, a student majoring in music and linguistics, was named to the dean's honor list for fall 2021 at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

The following students at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina received honors for the fall 2021 semester:

  • Ethan Robey of Fairfax was named to the dean's list. Robey is majoring in theatre.
  • Jack Garrettson of Fairfax was named to the president's list. Garrettson is majoring in undecided.
  • Katherine Poteet of Fairfax was named to the president's list. Poteet is majoring in political science.
  • Hailey Harms of Fairfax was named to the president's List. Harms is majoring in political science.
  • Sarina Arora of Fairfax was named to the dean's list. Arora is majoring in finance.
  • Lauren Ollis of Fairfax was named to the president's list. Ollis is majoring in international business.

Austin Moran of Fairfax was among the more than 600 students who graduated from the University of Mississippi in December 2021. Moran, a social work major, received a bachelor of social work degree in the School of Applied Sciences.

The following students were named to the dean's list for fall 2021 semester at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia:

  • Caitlin Hirabayashi of Fairfax
  • Chloe Mahalek of Fairfax
  • Jessica Willebeek-LeMair of Fairfax
  • Regan Tate of Fairfax

To be named to the dean's list at HU, students must earn at least a 3.5 average on a 4.0 grading scale.

The following students were named to the dean's list for the fall 2021 semester at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts:

  • Sam Littman of Fairfax, Class of 2025
  • Eric Lundgren of Fairfax, Class of 2025
  • Caroline Stephens of Fairfax, Class of 2025

To be named to the deans list at Tufts, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Radford University conferred 594 undergraduate and graduate degrees during the 2021 winter commencement exercises. The following local students were among those who received degrees during the ceremony:

  • Lily Lynn Daus of Fairfax, bachelor of science in psychology
  • Jillian Barnard of Fairfax, master of occupational therapy in occupational therapy
  • Jessica Lynn Peckins of Fairfax, master of science in physician assistant

The following students were named to the dean's list for the fall 2021 semester at Radford University, in Radford, Virginia:

  • Jennifer Zotian, communication major from Fairfax
  • Nicolas Cervi, emergency services major from Fairfax
  • Bridget Harold, nursing major from Fairfax
  • Lily Daus, psychology major from Fairfax
  • Megan Reed, theatre major from Fairfax

To earn a spot on Radford's dean's list, a student must have 12 semester hours of coursework graded A-F and maintain a GPA's of at least 3.4.

The following local students made the dean's list at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York for the fall 2021 semester:

  • Isaac Cohen of Fairfax, who is in the biomedical sciences program.
  • Sharad Khanna of Fairfax, who is in the computing security program.

Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for RIT's dean's list by taking 12 or more credit hours and maintaining a 3.4 grade point average or above.
